Summer camps are supervised programmes that usually take place during the summer time for children of all ages. The main reasons summer camps are around is for the development of children’s education and culture. Every camp has a theme such as art, sports, religion, and hobbies and so on and so forth. Summer camps are run in places that allow children to enhance their skills both physically and emotionally in a safe environment while interacting with other children and supervisors. These camps have nurturing and positive environments where children can participate, develop, gain experience and confidence.

Summer camps are places where children can unwind and escape their daily activities. Children would be enjoying their time outside and away from their parents, spending it with other children of similar ages, and are simultaneously learning a lot. They will be learning an immense amount of skills from these camps, a lot more than they would be learning if they were on vacation with their parents for example.

Parents, you should be encouraged to sign your child or children up for a summer camp, as you will be assisting your child in building his or her self-confidence. Allowing them to enjoy their summer vacation in these camps will improve their self-esteem and teach them to become more productive when interacting with other people while enjoying.

So it really depends on what your child enjoys and is most interested in because he or she would be the one going to the camp.

To choose a camp, consider the following:

What are your child’s likes and dislikes? This will allow you to eliminate the summer camps your child wouldn’t want to attend and find some suitable ones that he or she would enjoy. Secondly, find the pros and cons of each suitable summer camp – this decision shouldn’t only be from you “parents”, but should also come from the children themselves because they are the ones that will be actually attending the camp. Please note that you can’t make your child attend a camp that you would like him or her to attend, you must both agree on the camp and feel the same about it! The reason for claiming this is because a lot of parents choose a camp for their children without actually knowing what the children want – and you know what the end result is, the child would dislike summer camps. Hence, encourage the children into choosing the camp they wish so that both the parents and the children end up satisfied.

Another thing to think about is the actual philosophy of the camp. Many camps have a programme with a large list of activities to keep the kids busy throughout the day, but the way they do that defines the camp’s philosophy. Most of the summer camps stimulate teamwork so as to improve the children’s social skills, while other camps rely on the child in order to see his or her competitive side all day long.

Additionally, you must know what kind of team runs the summer camp. This is because the director and staff of the camp can play a big role on what camp you should choose – they have to be dependable and leave a good impression so that you end up feeling comfortable about the camp you send your child to, hearing compliments about the camp would also be a plus!

The cost of the camp can also have an effect on what camp you would choose for your child. Compare the prices of the camps, and see what camp your child will gain the most from and is affordable at the same time.

Why should my child attend a summer camp?

One of the many reasons children should attend summer camps is to have fun. A summer camp takes place during the children’s summer break, so they are supposed to have a lot of fun! Camps should make them forget about school for a little bit and make the most of their vacation. Summer camps will stimulate them to try new things but at the same time not push them – this is because their vacation should be fun and relaxing. They will let children spend some time with each other, away from their stressful daily routine.

Moreover, summer camps will develop your child’s personal strengths – and this is one of the main aims of a summer camp. Being in a camp with many other children, your child’s social skills will improve noticeably. Children will learn how to cope with different situations or problems – making them less reliant on their parents and more dependable and more self-confident.

Additionally, summer camps would allow children to establish and develop long lasting friendships. Children meet each other in summer camps, and spend that entire duration of the camp together. These children are from different cultures and backgrounds, but they share the same interests, hence they would be interested in befriending one another and learning the different cultures could benefit the children and make it an unforgettable experience.

Summer camps would allow your child to obtain new skills or strengthen the skills they already possess. Through the different activities the summer camp entails, children will develop new skills and adopt skills from other children during their activity sharing. What is very interesting is more often than not; summer camps are where children will be able to uncover their hidden talents!
